Each time oil prices have risen and consumers stop buying their dinosaurs, oil prices drop and Americans return to the same old habits.
How can we prevent General Motors and the American public to change their behavior?
High gas taxes, maybe? If we bail out general motors and the economy recovers and oil prices stay low, what will prevent them?
The American public shouldn't get blamed for this. The government is at fault for destroying the automotive industry, and so does GM by asking for government help and finance. In fact, the government injects billions into the industry that GM can't afford to pay back, because their stocks go down. So, the government will try to put them out of business, bail them out, and raise taxes on the people to sustain this mess. If we bail out general motors and the economy recovers and oil prices stay low, what will prevent them?
drill more oil and it won't matter. the car companies produce what people wanted, gas mileage isn't something easy to increase, unless you want to all drive in tin cans. the democrats have increased emission regulations, legislated higher safety standards resulting in lower fuel efficiencies. as far as unions being exempt under law for certain crimes,i wonder if that is constitutional since there is a equal protection clause
Social Darwinism is capitalism. Down with the uncompetitive companies!
Why the Big Three shouldn't be bailed out:
1. They have been business failures since the 1980s when they couldn't compete in vehicle reliability.
2. All those companies have had extremely crappy management and planning.
GM needs a dose of reality.
Execs being out on their asses (even if they get balloon payments) might teach them...
It was nto our fault that GMAC was nearly $300 billion bucks in debt in 2005 and was tied into the mortgage crisis with Fannie Mae!
I say let them fail.
The big auto makers all have a long history of caving in to big labor. It's time for the organized crime bosses in the unions to give something back.
