Plus, when you consider all the fans burning all the gas to go to the races, will there come a time when gas prices get so high and oil becomes such a precious commodity that the US will have to limit the number of annual NASCAR races?
Or ban them altogether? In this day and age of skyrocketing oil prices, is it ethical to run 25-30 NASCAR races every year?
Ethical or not they are still going to run Nascar as long as there is money to be made! I don't see any ban on it unless the government is willing to ban a lot of other things at the same time!
I enjoy the sport and hope it last forever. Now getting to the real problem that these rising fuel prices are going to cause Nascar. I'm hearing from some sources that gas could go as high as $8.00 per gallon. As it continues to rise to that level it will effect the amount of people that are willing to travel a long distance to see a race live. Less people in the stands means the tracks will start to loose money. When fuel gets that expensive sponsorship money will also get tighter. The average joe will spend less on everything else in order to buy the fuel that he needs just to get to work and back, if he still has a job??
We have been in a recession for several quarters now and if the price of fuel continues to rise it will shove this country into a depression. Nascar will be disrupted at that point, but so will everything else we enjoy and take for granted, like food!!
Just my 2 dollars!!
Opinions are getting more expensive also!
PEACE
Edit: This Nascar doesn't use the same type of fuel that I use in my personal vehicle is not a valid point, as the same crude is used to produce all types of petroleum based fuels. The difference is in the refining process! In this day and age of skyrocketing oil prices, is it ethical to run 25-30 NASCAR races every year?
The amount the races pumps into each city's individual economy outweighs the oil usage tremendously. If Nascar is going to be banned then private jets, SUVs, and recreational boats all have to be banned too. There is a lot of things out there that burn gas but Nascar fans pay their tickets to see the race, pack every local hotel, shop at every local store, eat at every local restaurant, and buy, buy, buy their merchandise pumping millions into the economy. If you want to solve the gas shortage, don't look at Nascar but look at yourself and help out saving gas so Nascar isn't a problem to some anymore.
It is 36 races a year, and I wish they would run more. It is not NASCAR's fault that gas is so high. They run a cleaner and sufficient fuel anyways. Then if they ban races, then Football players, Baseball players, Hockey players, Basketball players will have to ride bikes and scooters and riding lawnmowers from state to state to save on fuel.
So please, before you point the finger, think of the consequences, and the facts of life. NASCAR uses smart fuel, its the other guys wasting fuel.
NASCAR reduced the length of its races by 10 percent in 1974 during the ';gas crisis'; to show their part. Something about running the Daytona 450 that just doesn't have the same ring to it...
The amount of fuel used in the races and in attending them is about the same percentage as NASA's budget compared to the overall National budget... barely a drop in the bucket, but so visible that the pinheads always point to it as the problem.
Is it ethical to still have disposable diapers filling our landfills and also plastic grocery bags do you know how many years it takes to disintegrate? Is it ethical then for any sporting event? I live in Central California and it takes me 3 - 4 hours north or south to get to any sporting even. It takes me 4 hours to go to an Angels game is that ethical? It takes me 3 and a half hours to get to a Raiders game is that ethical? Maybe we should just ban you altogether.
Let me enlighten you. I live in St. Louis Missouri which is the 13th largest city in the U.S.
All St. Louis drivers, drive a combined total of 72,000,000 miles PER DAY!
At an average of 25 Miles Per Gallon, that's 2,880,000 gallons of gas used PER DAY! 120,000 gallons EVERY HOUR....or.....2000 gallons EVERY MINUTE!
43 Nascar stock cars racing in 36, 500 mile races would be 774,000 miles in 1 season. At an average of 5 MPG for Nascar, that would be 154,800 gallons of gas used in one year/season.....or.....4300 gallons in one race.
Therefore, in the time it took me to write this,(10 minutes) my city just ran 4.6 Nascar races!!!!!!!!!!!
That's the equivelent of 27.9 races every single hour and 669.6 races every single day!!!!!!!!!!
Well what about all the other sports that we drive to baseball, football, soccer, basketball, etc, etc why pick on Nascar, its not Nascars fault that the US doesn' t have decent mass transportation system like the Europeans do. New York and Chicago have pretty good forms of it...We all drive way to much, here, and there so monster SUV's on the road, If I had a penny for every Suburban and Hummer I see on the freeway with ';1'; person in it, I'd be rich. We americans are spoiled.. When I lived in Europe, I never drove to work, I got on the train. I do admit I'd like to see shorter Nascar races, but gas prices have nothing to do with Nascar..Snake I can just see Bruton now drilling for oil, that would be funny.. Yes they pay a lot more in Europe for gas, but then they get more for their tax dollars over there... I do not see anything being done to limit the number of races, I really do not think people will stop enjoying their favorite sports just because of gas prices, unless we get over $5.00 but that would probably hurt going out to eat and movies and vacation travel first..
Go Dale Jr %26amp; Hms
Well, if things get *that* bad, the fans can take public transportation together. And that shouldn't be a problem, with the cameraderie of NASCAR fans.
And as for the races, perhaps they can cut them down 10% like they did during the oil embargo of the 1970's?
But, really, it's not that big of a deal, and nothing will probably have to be done as long as the tracks are still selling the tickets.
No but i do believe that it is ethical to run 36 races a year and drive my hummer to the track so i waste even more fuel. I pay over 4 dollars a gallon just like the next guy or gal. The thing is is I work hard for my money and I'll spend it how i want to. The closest track to where i live is 11 hours to Chicago. We the fans will spend our money how we want and when we want. Don't judge us because you cannot afford to do the things you want while making minimum wage flipping burgers at the local burger joint. You want to do these things then go to school and get a better flippin job. that or don't judge other people because we can afford to do the things that we want.
NASCAR has nothing to do with ethics. It's the progression of the technological aspect of the automotive industry, as it pertains to a legalized motorsport. It is way more crucial to this country than all the ';ball'; games combined. Ball games contribute nothing to the growth of anything detrimental to American industry.
is it unethical to run 25-30 nascar races every year?
completely.
we expect 36 or so races per year from each of the top two series plus the 25 from the truck series.
anything less than that is not only unethical, i think it's immoral (and probably illegal in some states).
;-)
ok, one more time...NASCAR does not use the same type of fuel for race cars that we use in our cars...therefore, NASCAR as no affect on what we are paying at the pumps...
and do we have to stop all forms of entertainment just because gas prices are higher than we'd like. no, some of us learn to save or cut back in other areas to enjoy going to the races...
do you little kids realize how many people would be out of jobs with out nascar leading to even more inflation? heres a solution to your little problem get a summer job so you dont have to bother mommy for gas money all the time. or ride a bike to your geek friends house so you can xbox all day.
This question is getting tired and old. Do you know how many areas of our lives this argument could be applied to? And its just a terrible argument! Having hundreds of thousands of people sit in their living rooms instead of going on a trip is not good for the economy. How much money would the government lose in tax receipts if we put a cease to Nascar? Do you know how much revenue Nascar racing generates?
aww this is the answer to all of our energy woes... but why NASCAR..? why not INDY or F-1 and there are even air races too I believe.? I know it's easy to Race on your GameCube Mariocart maybe have an Idiot race on foot think about it.. how did your video game get to a store.. I think all Fat people need to pay 1 doller more than us because they are more heavy...
Probably not unethical, and banning would be ridiculous. But the races have been shortened in years past due to a oil crisis. I wouldn;t mind if they were to do that. Some of these races are 100 miles too long as it is. I'm talking to you Pocono.
Go away.
AND... they run 36 points races a year.

Only if they stop making movies, stop all other forms of motorsports, playing stick and ball sports and shut down the golf courses and close all the malls for the useless trips there. No need for anyone to have any entertainment.
During the last oil/gas crunch NASCAR reduced the length of ther races by 50 to 100 miles. As little as this sounds it is a saver.
I don't think that has any bearing on the price of fuel .If they were not going to nascar races they would be going some other places :like ball games or on picnics or just driving around.
I think it is ethical. Also, wouldn't it hurt the economy to put that many people out of work at one time? NASCAR employees LOTS of people!
interesting question but why did u only pick on racing sports? what about other sports and concert venues?? they attract thousands of people also.
How about McCain and Obama flying all over the country every day to campaign stops? Should we ban elections too?
Oh wait that was tried before in the USSR I think?
I think it's an outrage. 36 should be minimum just for the Sprint series.
some of us are already stuck at home during th weekend because of the high gas prices - don't take nascar away too!!
Yes!!!!!!
Well i think u want nascar to start driving hybird of sumting but that would be stupid
Its not the racecars or the Sunday traffic thats causing us to get screwed at the pumps !!
Were paying these prices because we have a war to pay for!
If they try to limit the amount of races? Bruton Smith has threatened to start drilling for oil in Alaska and the Everglades
