What are your thoughts on OPEC curring production again to drive up oil prices?

If you say ';this is proof of why we should drill now'; then you are not as bright as I had hoped?

The additional 2 percent the USA can pump and add to the market (which would take ten years to accomplish) wouldn't help in the least.

Is this proof of why the nation needs alternative fuels ASAP?What are your thoughts on OPEC curring production again to drive up oil prices?
OPEC hasn't cut anything. The President of OPEC has voiced his opinion that they need to, but he's been saying that for over a month now.

Your 2% thing is spurious. ANWR production would be the daily equivalent to the amount we import from Venezuela or Nigeria. That would have a huge impact on domestic and world prices. Add in additional oil from offshore assets and you could cut foreign dependency drastically, allowing the US a buffer to develop alternatives that are reliable, effective, and economical. Jumping into some unproven technology is a sure way to fail. What are your thoughts on OPEC curring production again to drive up oil prices?
The US has plenty of oil and it isn't even the so called fact that the government won't allow them to drill. They drill all the time, but since it's cheaper to buy the oil on the world market they do.

Simply allowing oil companies to drill wherever they want isn't going to lower oil prices any more than flying to Jupiter to drill is going to. When demand goes down they simply stop producing as much. When demand is high they produce more....and charge more because they can. Oil companies are in it for profit and people forget that. Oil companies are NOT and I'll say this as clear as possible, OIL COMPANIES ARE NOT HUMANITARIAN AID ORGANIZATIONS.

OPEC is dropping production because there is to much oil on the world market. it's a simple matter of supply and demand. The demand dropped so the prices dropped. They lower production so they can still turn a profit on their product. GM, Ford and Chrysler have done it for years too. When their inventories get to high they cut production and lay off workers. Every single company that sells a product lowers production when prices fall below a certain point.

Alternative fuels is a great idea, but not because OPEC cuts production. it's a good idea because we won't have to buy as much petroleum on the worlds markets.. That's as clear as the nose on your face.. duh..
OPEC is one half of the equation, our politicians are the other. As long as our politicians prohibit us from getting our own oil, we will have to depend on the big oil companies - who are supplying the OPEC oil.

Terrorism is another example. The terrorists are one half of the equation, and our politicians are the other. The terrorists are the hornets, and our politicians are the fools who are throwing rocks at the hornets nest.
I disagree

OPEC is the reason gas is ~ $1.75 per gallon

they wiped out all the investment in alternative fuels.

the message ';don't ever go up against oil';

they don't want the price to go to high, they need to find the middle ground,

a price per gallon we will pay without thinking about alternative fuel sources.
so when do you think an alternate to gas will be available in large quantities? And what should we do in the meantime to provide fuel to the American people? And we could have oil supplies on line sooner than 10 years and it would be more than 2%. And since you discourage American production of oil and coal. Then oppose constrution of new refineries, you should consider yourself to be on of OPEC's best friends in America.
nothing takes 10 years to do, they got rigs and platforms ready to go everywhere, and america has more oil then the middle east combined and then some, in fact we got more oil then that's been used by the entire world so far during the age of oil put together. do some homework before you start reciting politicians and there propaganda
According to the mechanic where I had my car towed Monday, the octane is so low in the gasoline at this time that it barely keeps the cars running. It didn't keep mine running. He said I would probably have to buy mid or premium gas now. Anyone else had this problem?
As long as we are dependent on petroleum for virtually everything they can do what they want with us.

And...as long as the oil companies are running the government...we will remain dependent on oil for everything.
Answer: No!

In '96 Klinton vetoed drilling in ANWAR...Since neither math, logic, or honest agenda effect the explanation you post with your statement posed as a question...We would have that crude now correct.
yep, we could end the foreign oil dependency if Califoria would let drilling off their coast....until they do, let 'em drown in their debt.
Oil prices are up today, but was due to falling USD value.
it's a cartel... it would be illegal under the law if it was in the U.S...
My thoughts? Drill baby drill.
